St. Brigid’s Day, officially celebrated on February 1st, marks the beginning of spring in Ireland and is one of the four major Celtic festivals. It honors St. Brigid of Kildare, one of Ireland's patron saints, who was known for her generosity, wisdom, and miracles.
St. Brigid’s Day is as much a musical celebration as it is a spiritual one, with Irish folk music and ancient hymns playing a central role in the day’s festivities. Brigid, as a saint associated with the land, healing, and the arts, is honored through musical performances that invoke both the sacred and the secular.
Our celebration at Music Box Supper Club on May 31st will include a fundraiser for Laura's Home, helping to provide support for women and children in crisis. Traditional music performed by local musicians will bring the stories of St. Brigid to life, inspiring both celebration and compassion, as we come together to support those in need.
All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting Laura’s Home.
Join us Monday May 25th at 2pm for an extra special workshop with world renowned fiddle player Kevin Burke!
Come and meet Kevin Burke for 90 minutes of conversation and demonstrations of the many aspects of Irish Fiddle Music. Bring along all those questions you’ve always wanted to ask, both specific and general – anything from bowing to ornaments, rhythms to repertoire, practicing to performing. Improve your playing and knowledge of the music, and, who knows, you might even learn a new tune.
Pre-Registration is required and attendance will be capped to preserve the intimate nature of this workshop. The cost of the workshop is $25 for Comhaltas members and $50 for non-members. Your registration will not be considered complete until payment is received. The workshop will be held at Il Rione Pizzeria, 1303 W. 65th St, Cleveland, OH.
